I worked with The Leprosy Mission Scotland to create an engaging animated film of Friday’s Story for their campaign for World Leprosy Day 2021.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many charities were unable to visit projects overseas, so TLM Scotland were looking for a different way to tell Friday’s Story.
Their campaign aimed to tackle the discrimination that people affected by leprosy face every single day. The beauty of animation enabled us to show Friday as a young boy, telling his story of disability, discrimination and even rejection by his own family. Whilst these are hard subjects, the strength of the project was in the dignity and anonymity we were able to afford Friday through animating his story whilst still using his own words to describe his story as The Leprosy Mission Scotland enabled him to transform his future.
The film was used primarily by churches across Scotland as part of their World Leprosy Sunday services, as well as on social media channels and the charities website.
Friday’s Story won Best Animation in April 2021 at the 4th Dimension Independent Film Awards. The film is now shortlisted for public vote for the Smile Charity Film Awards 2022.
